You got your report card and your GPA sits at 2.7. What does that actually? Are you well prepared to move on to the next step in your education? Or do you have some work to do? Let’s talk it through.
- A 2.7 GPA is equivalent to 80-82% or a B- grade
- The national average GPA is 3.0 which means a 2.7 is below average, and so you may have to work harder to catch up.
Is a 2.7 GPA good?
High School Students:
Most colleges and universities expect a 3.0 GPA or higher on your application. Keeping that in mind, you’ll likely want to raise your 2.7 GPA if you plan to continue your education after high school. Raising your GPA takes a lot of hard work and determination, but it is possible! Read on to find out how.
College Students:
If you hope to continue to graduate school a 2.7 GPA may be high enough, but you’ll want to be sure to include strong letters of recommendation, a good internship and high GMAT scores with your application as well. If you can raise your 2.7 GPA by at least a few points you’ll be much more likely to gain admission to the graduate school of your choice.
How can I raise my 2.7 GPA?
Now that you know what your GPA means, you may want to come up with a plan to raise your 2.7 GPA by a few points.
- Ask for Help: If you’re just not getting the grades you hope for even though you’re working hard. There’s no shame in asking for help. Meet with your teacher, teacher’s aid or a tutor and ask they how they recommend you raise your grades.
- Study First: Students have so much on their plates that it can be easy to push studying off until the last minute, but if raising your GPA is important to you make studying a priority. If you study first, while your brain is fresh you’ll see great results.
- Plan Accordingly: As you move forward, remember that you have some control over which classes you take. Choose classes you enjoy and avoid unnecessarily difficult classes. Choosing your class load wisely will give you a better chance at a high GPA.
